Cocktail recipes for summer

May 6, 2015

So I’m sitting here (on Cinco de Mayo might I add) drinking a daquiri out of a pouch, eating potato chips, watching QVC with a load of laundry going in the dryer.  Do I know how to party or what?  Oh, I also have a face mask on.  It’s Mask of Magnamity, so it’s super-chunky, too.  I’m so classy right now.

I figured in honor of today’s Share A Recipe prompt for Blogger, May I, I’d share a few of my favorite drink recipes I’ve found on Pinterest lately.

Amazing cocktail recipes you need to make for summer. Beer cocktails, classic cocktails, and something with a twist.

First, this margarita from Laura at Life with Lolo (that I didn’t find on Pinterst, I saw it on her blog because she’s hilarious and I love her and I went right to the source. Direct traffic, baby!) because I feel quite basic tonight with my Lush face mask and liquor out of a pouch.

This best G&T recipe from Drip and Drizzle.

Blackberry beer cocktail?  Sign me up.  I’d so drink with Fat Head’s Bumbleberry.

Laura posted about a beer-mosa/bromosa last week, but I want to make this Strawberry Beermosa version.

Oh, and {shameless plug} try my Lemon Basil Mojito cocktail as found…..here!

Lemon Basil Mojito make with lemon basil and white rum is the perfect summertime cockail with a little extra something special!

What are your favorite summer recipes?

Bunny light bulb redo

April 3, 2015

Last year, I shared two projects for making decorations with light bulbs.  I had penguins and Grinches for Christmas and bunnies for Easter.  I’d love to make ducks, but I’m still trying to figure out the logistics of that.

If I do, y’all will be the first to know.

Side note: I’m from Pittsburgh, I fully understand that my kind is supposed to say “yinz.”  I just can’t, so you get “y’all.”

Light bulb bunnies are a ridiculously easy craft and (I have no way to verify this as I don’t have children of my own) fun for kids!  Just keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t drop a poor light bulb bunny.

What I love about this project is that the materials are so easy to find.

  • Old light bulbs (I don’t even bother to take the guts out, so no sharp pieces)
  • Red, white, and black paint
  • A Sharpie
  • Card stock or heavy paper
  • Cotton balls
  • Brushes, toilet paper rolls (to prop up drying bulbs), and a plate for paint mixing
  • Hot glue gun or other adhesive stuff

I’m guessing you have about 100% of these items in your house right now.

I’m off to boil some eggs for dying.  Pro tip: save the water!  Plants love the calcium that comes out of the shells!

What are your favorite Easter crafts?

Sunday Lately, 11

March 15, 2015

Let there be sun!  Finally, the weather is turning the corner and it doesn’t feel so depressing anymore.  I’m not going to lie, I’d still like the solid excuse a snowstorm gives you for sitting around inside all day not doing anything.  BUT I have tons to do and I’m digging the above-30 degree weather.

What have you been doing lately?

Planning

I’ve been trying not to plan things out and go with the flow a little bit more, but it’s competing with who I am.  I am a planner.  I plan things.  I like to know what I have to do and how long I have to do it.  That said, if I’m having a relaxing weekend day with Jonathan, I just need to know when it’s going to start and have a general idea of what will happen.

That said, if it’s a work day and I have tasks to do after work, I need to list them all out.  The long and short of this is that I need to start planning again.  Time to break out my trusty Moleskine planner that I made for myself this year!

Loving

The “Upper Strip Amble” that Jonathan and I did on Wednesday.  Wigle Whiskey organized it, so you started at their distillery with a complimentary cocktail (I had a Nimbus made with local coffee-flavored yogurt and vanilla mole and it was like drinking delicious, boozy, melted ice cream and a I-Can’t-Remember-The-Clever-Cloud-Name but it had ginger beer and was like a Dark & Stormy).

Then you moved to appetizers and more drinks at Savoy (I skipped the drink as I already had two).  I hate to say it, I wasn’t impressed with the service – the bartender totally forgot about us!  And we were sitting in the middle of the bar.  The quesadilla was tasty, but it was also 7pm and I was starving, so anything would be good.

And you ended at Klavon’s, an old-fashioned ice cream shop, with Wigle-infused milkshakes made with….Penn State Creamery Ice Cream.  My favorite.

Reading

Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum.  I’ll be sharing a review next Friday.  It’s a little…darker..than I thought it would be.

Wishing

For a burger, wings, and/or Chinese.  Oh, and maybe a pizza!  I didn’t go grocery shopping this week and I had a lot of after-work events, so I haven’t really been cooking a lot at home and I’m going nuts with my food desires.

Feeling

Slightly stuck.  I’ve been looking at some new blog themes that I like, but I don’t want to give up on this one.  I know I can modify the CSS, but I can’t figure out how to modify the big thing I want to change.  I’d like the content width to be wider than it is and no one has guides for changing that.  Color?  Sure.  Padding?  You bet.  Content width?  Nada.

I have cute new photos and patterns and ideas I want to implement but I don’t want to do it and then have to re-do it all over again with a new theme.  #FirstWorldBloggingProblems #AmIRight?

Shameless plus: take a look at what I’ve been writing this week, especially about Dessange hair care (free from Influenster) and the Creative Soul Connection Weeknight Retreat!

February 8, 2015

Sunday Lately, 6

February 8, 2015

It’s been another crazy week of hospitals and running around.  I feel like I’m perpetually never caught up and it’s a bit worse this week.  But Jonathan’s friends visited for the weekend and we had a great afternoon doing absolutely nothing of substance or planned.  And it was wonderful.

Sunday Lately 6

Planning

I’m trying to get a foot up on February (even though it’s already a quarter over!) and it feel like I’m falling further and further behind.  I’m doing just enough to stay on top, but I don’t feel like I’m along far enough.  I didn’t completely finish my Stratejoy worksheets for 2015 and I have to go back and look at what I wanted to do in February for some inspiration.

Loving

New shoes!  At Target yesterday, I spotted the sandals I couldn’t get my hands on last year.  They’re natural with a wedge and look suspiciously like a Michael Kors pair.  I have it in a heeled version and they’re the comfiest shoes I’ve ever owned.  Seriously, I could go all day in those shoes and not feel tired or sore.

Reading

Nothing right now.  Ugh!  But I was selected to read and review Hausfrau by Jill Alexander Essbaum so I’ll be working on that soon.  I’m not going to lie, all the talk about 50 Shades kind of makes me want to go back and read them, but I think once is enough.  And I already sold them to a second-hand bookstore and there’s now way I’m paying for them again.

Wishing

For the cold and the snow to be over.  I don’t mind snow, but the below-freezing temperatures get a little….tiring.  What’s it like in your area?

It’s this time of year that I can’t wait to wear all the cute spring things that I see advertised and I know I can’t wear them until May, I’ll get about a 2 weeks of cute, and then it’ll just be humid for 3 solid months.

Feeling

Right now, pretty damn content actually.  I have some coffee, I’m writing, and I’m re-watching 30 Rock on Netflix.  I feel like every time I do a list of “what’s up right now,” I reference Netflix.  I’m also feeling hungry because I’m waiting for brunch.  My world revolves around food.  I need to start taking better care of my body.  But I will thoroughly appreciate my metabolism and ability to eat huge burgers, tons of fries, good beer, pasta, and only about a salad a week and still feel pretty good for as long as I can.

So what was your highlight of the week?
